Ah! I 've just read GreenJello's post about Saint Lucia and her meaning in Scandinavia! Now I understand! I love Noak in his pointed hat and you in your crown of candles!!
Mansuetude, WELCOME here again! It is an old tradition we have. Lucia was an Italian saint from 300 a.C. sometime... I do not know what everything is supposed to symbolize. But we celecrate this "queen of light" in the very darkest time of the year. Look at the link I have at the end of the post what it looks like when Lucia comes with her maids! Special songs are connected with Lucia. I´ve sung them over and over to my little boy today.

Hello, could you explain to an American why you wear the hat and the candles for this? I am intrigued.

Oh these amazing photos!!!!
It's a pity that you don't wear real candles but I can quite understand this ;)
You two look wonderful!

Di, GOOD you´ve done your homework ;)
Uschi,
I bought these candles last night for c:a 2 Euro, when Noak and I went to the center of our subvurb to pick up the local news-paper...

One year I will celebrate St Lucia.
