happy ADVENT to you

On the picture is a thing my Mother made for Advent.
Is advent just a Swedish thing?

This coming Sunday
on the first Sunday of advent,
we will lit one candle in the
advent-candle-holder.

Following Sunday
on the second Sunday of advent,
we will lit two candles in the
advent-candle-holder.

Sunday in three weeks
on the third Sunday of advent,
we will lit three candles in the
advent-candle-holder.

And the Sunday after that,
on the fourth Sunday of advent,
when we lit the fourth candle,
we will have waited long enough
because then it will be CHRISTMAS!

I wonder if you have advent in your country?

Hmmm. And I thought it was just a Catholic thing. Are your Advent candles Pink and Purple?

Hi Danielle!

Hello!! We have advent here in the UK too - advent candles in church, advent calendars at home...

Hej Olga! Vilket fint trådarbete din mamma gjort!

(vad konstigt kommentarfältet blivit, jag kan inte skriva in någon länk till Flitiga Myran, det verkar som om jag måste registrera mig hos Blogger för att få en bloggerlösen)

Advent is celebrated here, too.
I like "the old way", with candles, spices, baking, celebrating warmth and darkness...coming together and rethink a year....
The more modern way is: tons of electricity, an inflation of christmass-markets, piles of advertising, christmass songs in every shop...it's sooooo much hectic!
